This heavily silver-plated Mexican jug is made by one of the great midcentury Mexican silversmiths. Emilia Castillo, daughter of the renowned smith Antonio Castillo, brought her own take on Taxco silver. Highly collectible, her work was extremely sought after by department stores such as Neiman Marcus and remains so today. Her work is featured in places such as St Peter's Basilica at the Vatican.
This piece features exquisite with hand hammered details, with the most charming feature being an enamelled lizard or salamander on top of the handle. Beautifully done with a lively expressiveness to the salamander’s pose.
