Beautifully made vintage Japanese Kutani plates circa pre-war Showa Period (1930s), featuring a hand-painted scene of a scholar teaching his young student while admiring the beautiful bamboo scenery. Well painted border with iron red glaze and gilt details. We have 5 of these plates available. 


First established in 1655, Kutani ware has a long history as one of Japan’s best pottery manufacturing areas, and gained prominence in 1873 when it was exhibited at the World Exposition in Vienna. 


These would make beautiful condiment or snack dishes. Marked Kutani to base. 


Price marked at $50 AUD each or $250AUD for the set of 5. 

Measurements: 12cm diameter, 2.5cm high. 

Excellent vintage condition, minor wear overall and firing flaws commensurate with age. Some variance in details due to unique hand-painted and vintage nature of each piece.
