Vintage Early to Mid 20th Century Japanese Fukagawa Porcelain Lidded Trinket Box, with Cranes and Rainbow Clouds
Vintage Early to Mid 20th Century Japanese Fukagawa Porcelain Lidded Trinket Box, with Cranes and Rainbow Clouds
Fukagawa’s story begins in 1875, when the then head of the family Ezaiemon Fukagawa established Koransha in Arita. In 1894, his son Chuji Fukagawa branched off and started what is now known as the Fukagawa Porcelain company. The Fukagawa company has served as purveyor for the Japanese Imperial Household since 1910 and only produces white true high temperature porcelain of the finest quality.
They were known for their beautiful enameled porcelain made in the Ko-Imari style, of which this piece is an excellent interpretation. With a crane motif on the lid as well as the body of the jar beautifully painted in gilt, the auspicious rainbow clouds are finely depicted. With the traditional blue Fuji and stream porcelain mark, this piece is of particularly fine quality.
Tastefully done and with its signature high-fired bone porcelain background, an elegant piece that suits multiple decorating styles.
