Fukagawa’s story begins in 1875, when the then head of the family Ezaiemon Fukagawa established Koransha in Arita. In 1894, his son Chuji Fukagawa branched off and started what is now known as the Fukagawa Porcelain company. The Fukagawa company has served as purveyor for the Japanese Imperial Household since 1910 and only produces white true high temperature porcelain of the finest quality.

They were known for their beautiful enameled porcelain made in the Ko-Imari style, of which this piece is an excellent interpretation. The traditional knot and rope motifs here seen in a beautiful 20th century style, with the traditional blue Fuji and stream porcelain mark denoting this piece is of particularly fine quality. The tassel also evokes the shape of a lotus root, which hearkens to traditional Buddhist motifs used in Japanese art.

Tastefully done and with its signature high-fired bone porcelain background, a lovely piece that suits multiple decorating styles.
