Beautiful vintage Chinese nephrite jade pendant carving with newer hallmarked sterling silver setting, circa 20th century. Auspicious central motif of Hotei with his cloth sack and auspicious clouds. Known as the Laughing Buddha in the Western world, Hotei has traditionally symbolized good fortune and is one of the Seven Lucky Gods in Chinese and Japanese culture. A semi-historical figure, he is regarded by his followers as a reincarnation of Maitreya Buddha. See website for full-size photos.
