A very fine vintage mid 20th century teapot with Cantonese famille rose enamels and rich gilt accents. This excellent quality piece was likely made as a blank in Jingdezhen then shipped to either Guangdong (Canton) province or Hong Kong where it would then have been carefully handpainted and the gilt accents layered on. From the richness of the gilt and fine quality of work, we can tell this is a quality place, one likely made prior to 1970.

Known in Chinese as 粉彩, these translucent enamels are carefully applied by hand. Made in Canton for the export market, they were produced in varying stages of fineness between the 18th and 20th centuries.

This piece is intricately painted with varying motifs of florals, fauna and butterflies. While loosely decorated, the enamels are still applied by hand and have the signature vibrant tones of 20th century pieces of superior quality.

Price set at $380 AUD.

Measurements: 22cm width (total), 17cm high (total)

Condition: Excellent, possibly unused vintage condition. The twine attaching the lid to the teapot which is traditional in Cantonese culture is still intact and there are no signs of major wear. Some light wear to base and overall commensurate with having been carefully stored over several decades.
