Here we have a stunning late Victorian sterling silver liquor ticket / decanter label for Orange Bitters with marks for Wright & Davies, London, 1886. Beautifully made with thick gauge, pierced design and finely engraved pattern to the front; the curvature of the design ensures that the ticket fits securely around one’s vintage.
Orange bitters was made from Seville oranges, cardamom, caraway seed, coriander, anise, and burnt sugar in an alcohol base; doubtless a luxury in the day and used to great effect in many classic cocktails, including the Old Fashioned, the Manhattan and the dry martini.
