A beautiful set of 5 Victorian sterling silver entree forks with the Beveridge family crest, with marks for London, 1850, Chawner & Co (sponsor mark for George William Adams).

Beautifully etched crest to each spoon that depicts a beaver proper arising from a mural crown holding in its dexter paw a clock. This crest and other variants are used by the Beveridge clan in Scotland as well as various branches such as the Beveridge-Duncan family (Fairbairn, 1905). This clan has a long and storied history dating back to the Norman period, and derives its name from Beverege, an island in the Severn; the island was used as a refuge during medieval times, such as during Danish raids and during the Black Death.

The forks themselves are by Chawner & Co. during the George Adams period (1840 to 1884), one of our favourite firms and makers. Chawner & Co. were fine and prolific makers, supplying retailers such as Hunt & Roskell, R.& S. Garrard & Co & Elkington & Co.
