RARE SINGLE-OWNER AUSTRALIAN MASONIC COLLECTION

A single owner’s collection of Masonic regalia and mementos dating from early to mid 20th century, with the star piece being a 9ct gold medal with provenance. All the metal on the medal is individually hallmarked with a 9 ct gold stamp.
Frank Edgar Dungey (1900-1978), the original owner of this Masonic kit, was an active member of the Tatiana Lodge, as seen by the gold medal presented to him in 1934 by the members of the Tatiara Lodge in Bordertown. It should be noted that he is addressed upon the medal as “Worshipful Master”, the highest rank to which a lodge may elect its members. There is a commemorative medal celebrating 50 years at the Grand Lodge of South Australia, indicating his many years of participation and service in Freemasonry.
His service records state that he was born in Victoria, 1900, and that upon the date of enlistment (19th January 1942) he was already living in Bordertown. He lived and served during WWII, and thankfully returned after the war.
Another lovely bit of provenance is a receipt found within his kit for Bowen Jewellers in 1954, who were then working in the Adelaide Arcade, for the sum of 17 pounds 3 shillings and 2 pence to be paid for Grand Lodge regalia. Adjusted for inflation that would have been well over a thousand Australian dollars, and was a substantial sum back then.
A quick aside on the Tatiara Lodge; it was founded in 1911 in Bordertown, NSW and its main address, the Masonic Temple was built in 1925. As of 2008 the building was cleared and is now privately owned.

Very good antique condition; wear commensurate with age particularly to the case and its 4 corners. Overall the regalia including the aprons is still in excellent condition.

Price is marked at $2000 for the set including original box and provenance for the 9ct gold medal.
