Beautiful George II sterling silver salt cellar, with marks for London, 1751, David Hennell I. Hennell was active from 1739 to 1755 and was the founder of the “Hennell Dynasty”, a long line of renowned silversmiths who were known for their superb engraving, particular for wares associated with salt, tea and wine. The Hennell legacy continues under the name Frazer & Haws and Hennells on London’s Bond Street.

Finely engraved as well as featuring hand-turned details throughout, as well as excellent repousse work at a time which meant all of this was done by hand. A rare and highly collectible piece by one of the most famous names in English silversmithing history.

Price marked at $500 AUD.

Measurements: 3.5cm height, 5.6cm bowl diameter. 43.4g.

Overall good antique condition, with wear overall and to marks commensurate with age. Marks are rubbed but legible. Dent to one foot; this could be easily restored but still displays beautifully.
