Here we have a rare piece of Australian silver nautical memorabilia and horology, an antique stopwatch cased in .935 silver circa 1891. As seen on the inscription, this watch was a prize won during the Leichardht Rowing Club Regatta in 1891 for the Outriggers Event by a Mr. A.R.H. Ivens. Retailed by Stevenson Bros, a company founded in Adelaide and active from 1878 to 1956. Their headquarters was at 20 Rundle Street, Adelaide, but they had branches in Sydney as well.

The inscription reads as follows:

Outrigger Regatta

Ivens vs Falk

24th January 1891

Won By A.R.H. Ivens

See references below for an article by The Sydney Morning Herald describing the events of the day. The case is stamped with Swiss hallmarks for .935 silver.

Price marked at $1500 AUD.

The watch is in working order and in very good antique condition. The original crystal is missing but can be replaced; minor bend in the second hand. Minor blemishes to case.
