Pallme-Konig Biscuit Barrel Circa 1900s w/ Iridized Glass and Vitreous Glass Trail Lattice
In 1786, the Pallme glassworks was first established in Austria. By 1880-1890s the firm of Pallme-Konig was making some of the best glass in Europe.
In particular they were renowned during the Art Nouveau period for their signature iridized glass. Artisans would carefully wind hot glass trails around the iridized glass, forming a sinuously organic lattice- the whole piece would then be blown into a mold so that the trails were pressed into the glass.
This biscuit barrel showcases this technique impeccably; with silver plated handle and lid, the simple silhouette takes full advantage of the stunning iridescent finish.
Circa 1900s, it is in excellent antique condition with some wear to the biscuit lid and handle. There is slight wear to the glaze, which due to the intense colouration of the glaze is not too obvious. The intricate lattice work detailing this piece is fully intact.
Inside is in immaculate condition and can be used for its intended purpose. 🍪
