Pair of Edwardian crested King’s Pattern serving spoons, with marks for London 1905, Daniel & John Wellby

A beautiful pair of Edwardian crested King’s Pattern serving spoons, with marks for London 1905, Daniel & John Wellby. Active from 1878 to 1909, the brothers were diamond merchants and jewellers as well as producers of fine flatware. 

These substantial serving spoons, double-struck and of thick gauge, certainly live up to the brothers’ reputation for fine taste and luxury craftsmanship.

The crest depicts an eagle emerging from a mural coronet, in its beak a branch or slip. While we have not found the exact family this crest belong this, the fine engraving of the crest and the quality of the serving spoons suggest a noble house or landed gentry.
