Pair of lovely Edwardian cranberry glass and sterling silver epergnes marked Sheffield, 1903, Martin, Hall & Co (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall). This maker’s mark was used from 1881 to 1911 but their firm was founded in 1863.
Antique ruby or cranberry glass, which was achieved using gold chloride, is a highly desirable colourway. Furthermore, the beautifully ruffled edges and applied rigaree details are all classic details of antique epergnes. Displaying some of the best characteristics of Victorian glassware, this exemplifies 19th century charm.
Price marked at $580 for the pair.
Measurements: 19.5cm high, 8 by 8 base measurements.
Very good antique condition. Previous owner set one epergne stem in plaster, which we have left as-is; slight ding to one corner of one epergne base.
