A lovely framed mid to late Victorian pot lid that would suit any Prattware collector- or perhaps a country kitchen? Carefully mounted in its original timber frame, this pot lid is titled “Village Weddings, Tenier Pinx ” and depicts a classic English countryside scene.
Circa 1857, this is a quintessential example of Victorian Prattware, and demonstrates daily life in Victorian times. The lettering and graphics applied to these paste pots provide lovely examples of Victorian utilitarianism and insight into 19th century daily life, as well as people’s needs and aspirations at the time. These showcase both the beauty and function inherent in many such wares.
