This rare and original Victorian porcelain cistern pull is the perfect thing to add period charm to one’s Federation home. With high-tank toilets becoming en vogue in the 1860s, cistern pulls were usually decorative and occasionally featured the sanitation engineering firm’s details.

By the turn of the century, high tank toilets were gradually replaced with the more modern wash down versions we see today. Nevertheless, these original cistern pulls remain highly in demand for those seeking a true period look for their Victorian homes.

This particular one features a beehive motif to the top and bottom of the handle, as well as the words “William E Farrer / Sanitary Enhgineer/ Birmingham/ and / Cardiff” as well “PULL” stencilled with classic Victorian floral motifs. William E Farrer (1867-1931) appears to have been active up to the 1920s, and received awards for his work. This particular pull is likely circa 1880-90s.

These are extremely hard to find and are among the most desirable pieces for hardware collectors.

Price marked at $350 AUD.

Measurements: 10 length, 11.5cm total length including bail.
