A lovely Chinese export silver trinket dish, set in the base with a rare 1927 Republic of China Memento Dollar. First struck in 1912 to commemorate the inauguration of Dr. Sun as President of the new republic, this would also be minted in 1927 and 1949 in limited quantities; as these were intended as commemorative coins, these did not see active circulation. Set in sterling silver dish circa 1920s to 1930s.
These came from the estate of Supt. J.F. Lovell, who served in the Shanghai Municipal Force during 1914 to 1939. His remarkable life and career will be the subject of an upcoming article in Antiques to Vintage Magazine.
