“A leisurely time when women wore picture hats and did not vote, when the rich were not ashamed to live conspicuously, and the sun really never set on the British flag." ~Samuel Hynes.
This stunning George V monumental Hardy Brothers sterling silver epergne is an extraordinary piece to behold. These pieces represent the last heyday of the Belle Époque period, the sunset glamour of the Edwardian era before WWI began and the world changed. An absolute statement luxury piece.
All individual pieces are marked with the Hardy Brothers maker’s or assay mark. Hardy Brothers is one of the great names in Australian history when it comes to fine jewellery, silver and decorative arts. Their historic products are extremely collectible, and are held in state and national collections. It remains the only Australian jewellery business to hold a royal warrant and has produced the Melbourne Cup since 1980. Needless to say antique pieces from this maker, let alone one of such size and condition, are not just rare but excellent investment pieces.
With a delicately wrought base with three bowls, all bearing exquisite pierced details, this would make a lovely centre display for any table or home.
