This lovely mid Victorian papier-mâché table, likely circa 1847-1870, is one of our absolute favourite items in-store.
The intricate lacquer, gilt and mother of pearl inlay style patterns make papier-mâché pieces among the most desired of Victorian furniture items; particularly since their delicate nature mean that they didn’t always survive.

This Rococo Revival design in black japanned (varnished) papier-mache, profusely inlaid with mother-of-pearl, would have graced any fashionable lady’s salon room or parlour, and signifies a time when merchants began designing for the Victorian lady's 'feminine pursuits'.
