Mid to late 19th Century Victorian Prattware Pot Lid- "Cattle and Ruins"
This Victorian Prattware pot lid is decorated with a scene titled “Cattle and Ruins”, depicting a shepherdess sleeping against a crumbling wall with cows and sheep. Behind her a romantic vista of picturesque ruins. This piece is circa 1860s to 1880s, and is catalogued as No. 315 in Ball’s A.C.C. Price Guide
A relatively scarce pattern which showcases the technical excellence and whimsical charm of Prattware. The lettering and graphics applied to these paste pots provide lovely examples of Victorian utilitarianism and insight into 19th century daily life, as well as people’s needs and aspirations at the time.
