Mid to late 19th century Anglo-Indian silver bowl in the Lucknow style
Beautifully made mid to late 19th century Anglo-Indian silver bowl in the Lucknow style with intricate repousse motifs of stylised florals, temple and village scenes.
Antique Indian silver from the British Raj period is characterised by its intricate repousse work, which was a painstaking process which required both time and skill. Lucknow ware is distinguished by its usage of motifs from other regions, as well as depictions of village and jungle life; their silversmiths also signed their pieces by engraving a unique design on the base’s underside, typically of stylised flora and/or fauna.
