Charming mid 20th century Japanese creamer jug depicting several Immortals handpainted in the Satsuma tradition, with gilt and hand-painted details throughout.

Satsuma pottery is one of Japan’s most distinctive ceramic styles, and first achieved renown at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, 1867. Pottery from that period, as exemplified by these vases, is considered some of the finest produced by Japan and was a foundation of Japanese trade with the West during the Meiji Period.

The base bears a handpainted backstamp in kanji for Kai. Not much is known about this company or maker, but this piece is a nice example of vintage Satsuma and is a good entry point for new collectors.

Price marked at $100 AUD.

Measurements: 12.5cm diameter .

Very good vintage condition. Light wear overall commensurate with age, fleabite chips to inner rim of top and lid.
