Among our many fantastic finds, a selection of highly rare and collectible Prattware lidded pots. This particular mid-Victorian example circa 1850 is an excellent example that depicts a hunting scene after Philips Wouwerman, a highly regarded Dutch Golden Age artist. This would have been a treasured piece in a Victorian household.
A rare print and a collectible Prattware’s lozenge shaped pot, this is a highly desirable piece.
An accomplished artist and engraver, Jesse Austin joined the Pratt brothers in the early 1840s as the artist in residence. He produced their first underglaze polychrome pot lid in 1847 with the scene ‘Grace Before Meals’. His watercolours and polychrome designs became hugely popular among the Victorian middle class, with over 550 prints portraying the life and times of Victorian England. Pot lids and Prattware featuring delicate miniature reproductions of famous paintings by Austin were also highly favoured.
Price marked at AUD$440.
Measurements: Approx 14 by 8cm pot lid measurements, 5 cm high.
