Mid 18th Century Indian Tulwar Sword with Silver Damascene Inlay Hilt

This mid to late 18th century talwar or tulwar Indian sword is an excellent example of the form.

The blade is in excellent condition and was kept polished by its previous owner. The curve and top-heavy weight of the blade makes this an excellent example of the tulwar form, which was primarily used as a swinging rather than stabbing or parrying weapon.

The silver damascened hilt indicates that the owner invested a little more than was typical in his weapon, although the sharpness of the blade and wear to hilt indicates it was intended to be used (rather than for dress purposes). An excellent sword for those who are just starting to build their military collection.
