A fine set of late Victorian sterling silver tongs, with marks for Chawner & Co. (George Adams period), 1871, London. Monogrammed to the bow with initials EEE in elegant cursive.


Made by Chawner & Co. during the George Adams period, one of our favourite firms and makers. Chawner & Co. were fine and prolific makers, supplying retailers such as Hunt & Roskell, R.& S. Garrard & Co & Elkington & Co.


A son-in-law of the renowned Chawner silversmithing family, George Adams proved himself to be an excellent steward of the family fortunes; their pattern book of 1875 is considered a definitive resource in Victorian silver patterns.
