An elegant set of late Georgian to Regency period provincial sterling silver tongs with thick gauge and crisp hallmarks. Made by John Langlands II who was active from 1796 to 1802, and was succeeded by his wife Dorothy Langlands, with assay marks for Newcastle.His family was the most prominent among the silversmiths in Newastle-upon-Tyne. A rare bit of provincial English silver.
