For full photos, please see our website listing. This late 19th century lidded Coalport porcelain urn, beautifully hand-painted and gilded, is an exciting opportunity for a collector new to English porcelain. Its registration mark (225665) as stamped on the base dates to 1894-1896, placing it as circa late 1890s. Coalport was first established in the late 18th century and rapidly gained a name for the quality of their porcelain and beautiful decoration. By the 1820s they had established themselves as one of the best makers of English porcelain, rivalling other manufacturers such as Minton. 19th century Coalport pieces remain highly sought after and a piece such as this, finely gilded and well decorated, typically commands high prices. However, it should be noted that at some point this piece suffered a fall. While it has been meticulously repaired, the finial is chipped as well as cracks throughout the body. However for someone seeking a beautiful and true antique piece of English ceramic history, this is still an excellent opportunity to buy an antique Coalport piece at an excellent price.
