Here we have a stunning High Victorian sterling silver liquor ticket / decanter label for Amontillado with marks for Wright & Davies, London, 1865. Beautifully made with thick gauge, pierced design and finely engraved pattern to the front; the curvature of the design ensures that the ticket fits securely around one’s vintage.
Amontillado historically referred to sherry produced in Montilla, Spain, but nowadays can be used to denote sherries between the fino and oloroso colouration. It is of course enshrined in literature by Edgar Allan Poe’s eponymous short story as a sherry to die for.
