Beautiful High Victorian Chawner & Co. sterling silver fish slice with marks for London, 1842. Inscription of the period to the centre “C.H.A. & Cowen // to Mr and Mrs Matthews”.

Made by Chawner & Co. during the George Adams period, one of our favourite firms and makers. Chawner & Co. were fine and prolific makers, supplying retailers such as Hunt & Roskell, R.& S. Garrard & Co & Elkington & Co.

A son-in-law of the renowned Chawner silversmithing family, George Adams proved himself to be an excellent steward of the family fortunes; their pattern book of 1875 is considered a definitive resource in Victorian silver patterns.
