Today we have a beautiful heart-shaped basket from one of our favourite porcelain manufacturers, Belleek.
Belleek as a company was founded in its namesake in Northern Ireland, 1884. The unique mineral deposits there helped form the signature Belleek glaze and its fine lustrous, almost translucent quality of porcelain; advantages which are displayed to excellent effect here.
We have seen later examples but we believe this to be 1890-1920, from Belleek’s 2nd period circa 1890-1920, certainly no later than the transition period of the 1920s, first quarter of the 20th century. This also places it within the Slater period, which was when Frederick Slater, one of Belleek’s finest master craftsman was in charge of the design department (1893-1933).
A lovely basket design, one of Belleek’s early signatures, that lets the renowned delicacy of Belleek’s latticework shine through.
Measurements of: 11.5 cm approx length, 10 cm width. 4.5cm high.
Very good antique condition. The latticework is in excellent condition which is so rare in earlier Belleek pieces. There are two tiny stable hairline cracks in one base plaque as pictured, but does not affect display or use.
