A finely made George V sterling silver lidded tea caddy, with marks for Stewart Dawson & Co. Ltd. Assay marks for 1911, Birmingham. They were a very well-regarded firm that had retail premises on Regent St as well as Hatton Garden in London. The founder Stewart Dawson would later find huge success in Australia, so much so that he would emigrate there, and the company still exists as a diamond and watch retailer today in New Zealand.
This piece is very British New Modern in style, but would suit a variety of aesthetics up to and incl. Art Deco.
A well-made, handsome piece that seals tightly and could be used for an assortment of herbs and spices.
