Fine antique Continental European 19th century silver posy holder
Fine antique Continental European 19th century silver posy holder
SOLD but too good not to share.
Fine antique Continental European 19th century silver posy holder. Unmarked but tests as silver, likely between .800 to .900 silver purity. Such an elegant way to carry small bouquets or corsages, which were called tussie-mussies (alt. sp. tussy-mussy) during the Victorian period and were popular among women of all ages. Of course, young ladies in particular favoured these charming gifts from gentlemen callers. Posy holders thus became en vogue, and were fashioned to be just as beautiful as the tiny treasures they carried.
This particular one is full of classic details, with beautiful pierced floral motifs throughout and a delicate chain from which one can hold their bouquet with ease. Its feet unfold into a stand- perfect for when the bouquet needs to be put down for a moment.
Ideal for brides looking for “something old”, but would also make a lovely posy vase.
