This exceptional Art Deco enamel and sterling silver compact circa 1928 is inlaid with colours of red, white, black and blue. A beautifully done geometric pattern, the quality is on par with the top makers of the time.

Within the compact, both powder and lipstick containers show signs of use. The lipstick container has its own separate compartment, and the mechanism is in excellent condition.

Overall, the enamel is in excellent condition. This was clearly a treasured piece, one kept “for best”. The soirees and balls this must have seen!

Maker’s marks are for PH Vogel & Co, 1928. The firm was active during 1925-1934, and produced its own pieces as well as importing pieces from European makers. This piece is almost certainly the latter, and French in origin. Truly one of the finest compacts we’ve laid eyes on.

Price marked at AUD$1750.

Measurements: 9 by 4.5 cm, 1.5 xcm depth. Total weight 122.1 grams.
