Ebonized Wood Framed Victorian Prattware Pot Lid "The Sportsman", Mid 19th Century
A lovely framed mid to late Victorian pot lid mounted in original ebonized timber frame. Titled “The Sportsman”, this depicts with his gamekeeper and hunting dogs. Circa 1850-60s, this is a quintessential example of Victorian Prattware, as well as a depiction of English pastoral life.
The lettering and graphics applied to these paste pots provide lovely examples of Victorian utilitarianism and insight into 19th century daily life, as well as people’s needs and aspirations at the time. These showcase both the beauty and function inherent in many such wares during Victorian times.
