A lovely framed mid to late Victorian pot lid mounted in original ebonized timber frame. Titled “The Gamebag, this depicts a sportsman with his gamekeeper examining the spoils of their hunt. Circa 1850-60s, this is a quintessential example of Victorian Prattware, as well as a depiction of English pastoral life. This would make a lovely series of art in conjunction with our other pot lid pattern “The Sportsman”.

The lettering and graphics applied to these paste pots provide lovely examples of Victorian utilitarianism and insight into 19th century daily life, as well as people’s needs and aspirations at the time. These showcase both the beauty and function inherent in many such wares during Victorian times.

This pattern is reference number #306 in Ball’s authoritative guide on pot lids.
