This early to mid 20th century moriage enamelled earthenware bowl displays a beautiful choice of colour here, and is a fantastic contemporary interpretation of a traditional moriage pattern. Moriage is a painstaking technique involved building up areas of enamel to produce a three-dimensional effect.
Moriage was produced in Japan from the end of the 1800s until the mid 1900s, reflecting western interest in Japan during this period. Over the time styles and materials have changed, with this earthenware piece being likely circa the 20th century period. This was a well-executed art studio pottery piece, unfortunately the mark was too worn for us to make out.
Price marked at AUD$440.
Measurements: 9cm by 18cm dia.
Condition: Good vintage condition, light wear to glaze.
