An excellent pair of early 20th century Doulton Lambeth stoneware vases by senior ceramic artist Maud Bowden circa 1900s to 1920. Active from 1903 to 1937, her breadth of technique ranged from Victorian to Art Deco. These vases encapsulate the transition period between High Victorian / Edwardian to Art Nouveau. The craftsmanship of earlier periods displayed in the elegant silhouette, the tube lining and beadwork techniques used as well as the stylised blossom and leaf Art Nouveau inspired motifs on the vase.

A beautiful cobalt blue ground to body and olive tones to neck and shoulders of vase. The blossoms are beautifully hand-painted in white slip, creating a translucent effect similar to pâte-sur-pâte.

Incised Doulton mark, signed MB for Maud Bowden.

Price marked at $1600 AUD for the pair.
Measurements: Approx. 30 cm high.
Excellent antique condition with minor firing flaws to glaze and wear to base commensurate with age.
