A stunning George III sterling silver straining spoon with marks for George Smith III & William Fearn, London, 1787. The sponsor mark dates to the very beginning of their partnership which was used for a brief period from 1786 to 1787.

A substantial piece of thick gauge, elegantly crafted with beautiful pierced design to the strainer’s bowl. An elegant crest engraved to the handle which depicts a cubit arm holding an arrow proper, point downwards which is of the Cuthbert family. A noble family of ancient lineage that traces its roots to Saint Cuthbert of Landisfarne, Northumberland (d. 687 AD).

Members of the Cuthbert family were upon the First Fleet to Australia and were amongst the first settlers in Australia as well as New Zealand.


Price marked at $1500 AUD.

Measurements: 30cm length, 141.4grams.

Excellent antique condition; marks crisp and well-struck, in exceptional condition for Georgian silver.
