A charming Auld Mac or Owd Mac small Royal Doulton toby jug circa 1930s to 1940s,designed by Harry Fenton. This was inspired by a popular song in the 20th century by Sir Henry Lauder which was called “Bang Went Sixpence”. In the song, a Scotsman named Mac finds London disconcerting as the city cost of living was too high- he was scarcely there before “bang went sixpence”- this expression however was popular as early as 1868.
