Antique Chinese Export Silver Ice or Sugar Tongs, Hung Chong & Co., 1830-1925

A lovely and practical example of Chinese export silver, these tongs bear the workshop marks for Hung Chong & Co, one of the most prominent Chinese silversmiths and retailers. Hung Chong was based in Shanghai and operated between 1830 and 1925; there contemporaries include Wang Hing (active 1854 – 1941) and Woshing (active c. 1850s - 1925).

Fine floral plum blossom engraving to the body of the tongs, as well as crisp and legible marks for Hung Chong and Kay Chang.
