Antique Anglo-Indian Lucknow Silver Trophy, Brown Challenge Cup, Amateur Athletics

Lovely antique Anglo-Indian silver trophy cup. A fantastic example of colonial silver, circa late 19th century. Captioned Brown Challenge Cup, 440 yards for seniors. This was most likely an amateur athletics trophy for a prestigious grammar school. Likely this school was based in England or its colonies, as the 440 yard race was highly popular in amateur athletics at that time. 

Archives show that similar challenge cups and races were held in Auckland, and nowadays has been mostly replaced by the 400 yard dash. A very nice cross-collectible piece that bears characteristics of Lucknow silver.
