Antique Japanese ivory netsuke of a rat is signed by Tsura

This charming antique Japanese ivory netsuke of a rat is signed by Tsura (ツラ), quite unusually in katakana script. Little information was found on this carver but considering the quality of craftsmanship, this is likely circa Meiji period.

Well carved and perfect for those born in the year of the Rat; the rat symbolises cleverness as well as a social and hard-working nature.
