Early 20th century pagoda novelty form pepperette, marks for .900 silver and Wang Hing
Beautiful early 20th century pagoda novelty form pepperette, with marks for .900 silver purity, maker’s mark and MH, actually W.H. Wang Hing is one of the great makers of Chinese export silver and this piece certainly proves it.
According to Von Ferscht’s definitive book on Chinese export silver (pg, 293), this stamp can be attributed to Wang Hing (Canton and Hong Kong, 1854-1941). Chinese silversmiths would occasionally strike the letters upside down as they were unfamiliar with the Latin alphabet.
Exquisite detail, as expected from one of the great names of Chinese export silver.
