A lovely George IV sugar sifter spoon with marks for London, 1827, Morris & Michael Emanuel.

Morris & Michael Emanuel were active from 1825-1830 and were known for their fine flatware. This particular example with its double-struck pattern and finely pierced pattern to the bowl is an excellent example of their quality. 

Crested with a beautifully etched pattern, the family crest depicts a wyvern with wings displayed. Based upon research this is most likely a connexion to one of the Drake families; Patronymica Britannica, authored by Mark Antony Lower in 1860, states the following “Several families of Drake bear as arms the wyvern”. While the most famous of the Drake family would naturally be Sir Francis Drake, there have been several illustrious families in England bearing this surname including 4 baronetcies, and the Drake name dates back to the Domesday Book in 1086.

Overall excellent antique condition, with wear to gilt interior of bowl. Lightly rubbed sponsor’s mark but still well-struck legible. Marks otherwise crisp.
