Art Deco Pink Pate Sur Porcelain Jasperware Wall Plaque Signed by Camille Tharaud
Art Deco Pink Pate Sur Porcelain Jasperware Wall Plaque Signed by Camille Tharaud
This beautiful pink Limoges jasperware plaque is by renowned French porcelain artist Camille Tharaud. One of the most notable names in French Art Deco ceramics, Tharaud (1878-1956) pioneered new techniques in enamelling and firing, as well as creating some of the most beautiful pate sur works of the 20th century. Pate sur is a technique where layers of slip or white clay are carefully handpainted onto the the plaque, creating delicate translucent layers and remarkable depth.
Beautiful Neoclassical style with small cherubs riding upon and leading a goat. Pink is always a collectible colour way, even more so with this style as larger pieces by Tharaud are extremely collectible- much of his pink pate sur ware was made as smaller decorative plates and/or trinket boxes.
Tharaud was renowned in his time, and participated in many exhibitions, some of which are below:
- 1925 - International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts
- 1927 - Decorative Artists Fair
- 1928-30 - Paris: Salon des artistes décorateurs and Salon d'Automne
- 1931 - Sèvres Museum, Exhibition of Works by Modern Ceramists 1890-1930, 16 exhibits; Decorative Artists Fair; International Colonial Exhibition
