An elegant William IV sterling silver butter spreader, with marks for London, 1830, William Eaton. Of thick gauge and handle engraved with the family crest and motto of Clan Gordon of Scotland; “Animo Non Astutia”, meaning “By courage, not by craft” and a stag’s head and neck affrontée proper.
Eaton, a prolific and talented silversmith, used this sponsor mark circa 1828 to 1844.

Excellent antique condition with minor wear overall commensurate with age. Crest rubbed but legible.
