Antique Victorian Wedgwood green and brown majolica plate with country house scene, circa mid to late 19th century
Antique Victorian Wedgwood green and brown majolica plate with country house scene, circa mid to late 19th century
Antique Victorian Wedgwood green and brown majolica plate, circa mid to late 19th century. Impressed Wedgwood and worn factory backstomp on base. These early majolica pieces by Wedgwood are extremely rare and desirable, particularly this central intaglio motif featuring a stately country manor. The factory mark on this piece heavily worn but an identical plate found in our research had a date cipher circa 1874. The latter was listed on 1stDibs and sold for $888AUD- ours is priced with condition issues in mind, making it a bargain for serious majolica collectors.
Price marked at $440 AUD.
Measurements: 30cm diameter, 5cm height.
Overall good antique condition, with one hairline crack to rim as pictured. Hard to see in the front due to high shine of glaze and busy pattern.
