Charming antique sterling silver and crystal hair tidy circa London, 1907. Repousse motifs to the top, as well as the letters HAIR TIDY in elegant font.

A hair tidy, also known as a hair keeper or hair receiver, was en vogue during the Victorian to early Edwardian period. These little receptacles were used to collect hair from ladies’ combs and brushes, so that the hair could be made up into little rats, pillows which bulked one’s hair into the fashionable hairstyles of the day. Although they fell out of favour as the bob hairstyle became in vogue during the early 20th century, this charming little receptacle would be perfect for one’s bobby pins or other such trinkets.

Price marked at $100 AUD.

Measurements: 5.5 cm high, 5.4cm base diameter.

Crystal in excellent antique condition, silver top with blemishes, dents and one split as pictured. Still displays beautifully.
