Antique Russian Orthodox icon depicting Madonna and the child Jesus in .875 Silver

This antique Russian Orthodox icon depicting Madonna and the child Jesus is influenced by Byzantine iconography and heavily layered with .875 silver with gilt details. A lovely and particularly fine piece, with dimensional details such as a worked halo and filigree headdress worn by the Madonna and the child Jesus. Their hand-painted features are beautifully depicted. 

Assay marks for I. Avdeev, Moscow, 1857.. Maker’s marks for пг (PG). Marked 84, which under the Zolotnik system indicates. 875 silver purity. Marks are clear and legible.

Measurements: 18 by 22 cm, frame depth approx 3cm. 

Excellent antique condition; light wear overall commensurate with age. Mild craquelure to Madonna’s features as pictured commensurate with age. Old provenance labels to back.
