This lovely antique Royal Doulton lidded vase is a highly collectible piece. Asides from the beautiful shape, form and illustrated finish, the artist’s signature determine this to be by one of Royal Doulton’s greatest artists. Harry Nixon was active from 1900-1950. He was closely associated with Charles Noke, artistic director of Royal Doulton, and Nixon was in charge of figurine painting at the Nile St works. The ‘HN’ series numbers on Royal Doulton figurines are his initials, and recognise his contribution towards Royal Doulton’s legacy.
In and of itself too, this beautifully painted vase and cover has a lovely drum ogee baluster form. Worked foliate handles and beautifully done pastoral ploughing scene lend an English touch to its almost neo-classical shape.
This style and craftmanship is hotly desired by collectors, with a similar piece selling last year in the UK for almost 400 pounds including buyer’s premium and VAT. Certainly not a piece to be missed.
Measurements: 15.5cm high
Condition: Two tiny hairline chips on each side of the lid- not too visible unless upon close inspection.
